Zhen collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no server. The app makes no network requests at all.
Scoring your pronunciation needs your microphone, so the app records you while you hold the record button.
What survives a scoring attempt is a score: which syllables you got right, the pitch curve drawn on screen, and a review card for anything you missed. That stays on your iPhone.
Both run on your device.
Speech recognition uses Apple's on-device speech models. iOS downloads those models itself, once, the same way it downloads a keyboard dictionary — that download is between your iPhone and Apple, not something this app performs or observes. After it, recognition works offline.
The conversation partner uses Apple Intelligence's on-device language model, where your iPhone supports it. Nothing you type or say in a conversation is sent anywhere. Where Apple Intelligence is unavailable, the app falls back to a scripted partner built into the app, and tells you it has done so.
Your level, vocabulary progress, review schedule and past attempt scores are stored in a local database on your iPhone. There is no account and no sync — the data exists on one device and nowhere else.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, because we never had it.
Zhen is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.
